Tomato, Amish Paste (heirloom, $6/lb)

Regular price $6.00

6Amish Paste tomatoes are an heirloom plum tomato which makes it a versatile favorite for processing, cooking, salads, and slicing. They are slightly irregular elongated shapes and weight from 2-12 oz. with excellent flavor. The taste of an Amish Paste tomato has a sweetness that stands out and is complemented by its mild acidity with  a rich tomato flavor that is earthy and slightly tart. It is firm with a thicker skin and very juicy which makes it easy to slice and holds up in cooked dishes. We start with organic, heirloom seeds and grow them in our “hot” greenhouse, year-round with absolutely NO harsh chemicals.

HOW WE GROW - All of our fresh produce is non-GMO, grown hydroponically and year-round in greenhouses with natural light, and never exposed to harsh chemicals to provide clean, highly nutritious, and delicious produce. Our strict standards of responsible, sustainable, and regenerative farming include conservation (water, electricity, etc.), organic pest management only (beneficial insects, OMRI-certified products, etc.), and land management.  Find us at www.AquaTerraFarm.com.

PACKAGING – We sell tomatoes in 1-pound increments (e.g. 1 lb. = 1+ lb., 2 lbs.. = 2+ lbs., etc.). The tomatos weigh over 3 ounces each and are vine-ripen and picked after reaching their full flavor (at least 50% pink AKA “breakers”). Most commercially grown tomatoes available in grocery stores are harvested green to withstand shipping and storage and ripened later which impacts their flavor.

STORING – The best way to store tomatoes is with no stems, sitting on a flat surface (e.g., large plate) stem side down, and at room temperature. Never store tomatoes in a refrigerator and keep them out of direct sunlight. A good way to speed-ripen tomatoes is by putting them in a bag with bananas.

NUTRITION – Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, potassium, and lycopene (known for its antioxidant properties). Tomatoes are also low in calories and high in fiber, making them a healthy addition to any diet.
